Curse of the Mutants
Since, Wolverine and Jubilee is coming out tomorrow, I felt I would share my thoughts with you my fine readers on what I thought about the the Curse of the Mutants and X-Men vs. Vampires storylines. First off, I did not go into this series thinking I would like it. In fact, the main reason I even started reading it was so I could get my Jubilee fix (as I've stated many times on here I'm a huge jubilee fan). So, going in I thought it was just a ploy to cash in on the whole vampire thing but, in reading it I ended up really enjoying it. I especially enjoyed X-Men vs. Vampires since lately I've been leaning towards anthologies rather than single issues. Because, I enjoy getting a few stories about different characters rather than one long story and the first story in X-Men vs. Vampires is what really sold me since it starred Husk and I really like all the Generation X characters and feel they should be used more. Beyond that I really enjoyed how Jubilee tricked Wolverine and also loved the fight scene in issue #5 with all the hard skinned mutants front and center and Iceman being blessed by the priest. For me this series was really well executed. My only real complaint about it was the design of Blade. I haven't seen him in much lately, so maybe this is how he looks in all of his appearances, but to me his design made him look super gay. What I mean by that is that he looked like total rough trade stereotype, with his moustache and a haircut that one of the cats from the WWF tag team Legion of Doom would be sporting. This is not to say that it's wrong to have gay characters or that people shouldn't be into what ever tickles their fancy. But, to me it was just a bit jarring seeing this guy who is supposed to be this badass vampire slayer, and feeling like It's raining men was playing in the background every time he showed up or that his catch phrase should be "FABULOUS!" Other than that I thought the creative team did a really good job and I liked how it ended with Cyclops telling Dracula to watch his step or else... and Dracula just just being like "alright." All in all a good series and I can't wait for Wolverine and Jubilee to hit the shelves.

Another Anniversary
Well, this month Monkey Knife Fight turns 2 and I would like to thank all of you who have come and checked out my little section of the Internets along with the people who have began following me on here and a special thank you to everyone who has left comments for me. You folks make me glad to write this blog as well as proving that even my ramblings have a place on the net. Now that I've thanked everyone, I would like to proclaim that as long as I feel I have something to say I will continue writing Monkey Knife Fight and hopefully I will be better at regularly posting on here. I'm also going to make more of an effort in being less random in my subject matter. I know I have been really lousy in regularly posting in the last year and for that I apologize to all my regular viewers (Hi, mom)and to make up for that I will do my best to post more and be more coherent in my ramblings. When I first started this blog, I figured I'd have enough to say for a few months or that I would maybe be able to think of enough content for maybe a year. Now here we are heading into the toddler stage of Monkey Knife Fight, the blog has learned to walk and now it's all about jamming things into electrical sockets. Hopefully, I've learned something in these last couple of years that will make me a better blogger and Monkey knife fight will continue to grow. Though, before I go I feel I should talk a little about the failed endeavour that was Quarter Bin Reviews. For those of you that don't know, this year I attempted to create another blog. I started it because I wanted to stretch out of my comfort zone of just writing about whatever fool idea comes into my head and actually have a purpose, as well as trying to learn how to write proper reviews. I was only able to do a couple of full reviews before it fizzled out and though I did enjoy writing it. I just ended up not having the free time to read (terrible) old comic books and write up entertaining reviews and they ended up being more retellings of the stories than actual reviews and though, Quarter Bin Reviews ended up crashing and burning. I still have a few other things I may try doing on another blog. but, for now I'm just working on Monkey Knife Fight. I have no clue what the coming year will bring, but I hope I will learn to find the time to post here more often than I have been. Once again a big thank you to everyone who has dropped by and I hope to continue entertaining you for as long as I have an opinion about comics and the worlds they inhabit and of course, to spread the word about the awesomeness that is Jubilation Lee.

The Irredeemable X-Men
So, for a while now I've been toying with the idea of making up an X-Men team made up of the mutants that get no respect for the powers and came up with the idea of the Irredeemable X-Men team which consist of:
Iceman - The leader of the team, who's trying to prove to Scott and the others he can lead and that making ice is not just a parlor trick seeing how he can control one the the most abundant of the elements on Earth.
Jubilee - Besides being one of my favs she's got an awesome personality and can control the fourth state of matter (plasma) with her "fireworks".
Husk - Every team needs a big guy and I think she would be a fun one to go with. though she's not made fun of as much as the two above her. She hasn't gotten a lot of face time in the X-Men books (well, other than in the X-Men vs. Vampires books).
Wolfsbane - Even though she doesn't get teased too much about her actual powers, I do feel she could be used better with in the X-Men books which tend to focus on her religious views in a way that I think is unfair (Like some of the jokes her X-Factor teammates have thrown her way) and that she would make a good team mom for this rag-tag group.
Cypher - Last but not least the guy who can understand all forms of communication. Granted the new New Mutant book has been treating him better (especially when he pwn'd the team in his first re-appearance). He still doesn't get nearly the respect he should based on his powers. Heck, look how crazy awesome Cassandra Cain was using only one of the techniques available to him.
So, there you have it, the Irredeemable X-Men team. Hopefully someone at Marvel will make this happen and then maybe Joey Q will stop getting so much flack (from people like me) about Spider-MAn's satanic divorce.

Wolverine's Powerful Princesses
While handing out candy this year, me and a friend struck upon the funnest idea for a new X-Men team. While we're still working on a name that doesn't sound pervy. The idea for the team thus far is that for whatever reason (maybe he stole Cyclop's motorcycle one too many times). Wolverine is put in charge of leading a team consisting of; Jubilee, Molly Hayes, Pixie and, Kitty Pryde. Most of this series would consist of various X-Men popping in to make fun of Wolverine. With Colossus occasionally dropping in so that Illyana can visit with her friends and Molly Hayes beating up Wolverine when doesn't pickup the right slurpee flavor or drive her too the mall or whatever. But, mainly just a book written as an excuse for young Molly to pummel Logan on a monthly basis.

She's the Boss Pt. 2
It's been a long time since I've posted anything new, mainly because I couldn't really think of anything to post. But, in the last couple of weeks I've been getting back into my love of Jubilee. I felt it would be a good time to finally post some new material. As, I've talked about in other posts I enjoy reading comics which feature Wolverine and Jubilee from the perspective that he is actually her sidekick. Just something about the idea that mean, feral, tough as nails Wolverine is following a bubbly teenage mall rat tickles me deep down in my soul and if I ever got the chance to write an X-Men book I would totally play up this alternative character interpation. With Jubilee calling the shots and Wolverine basically being like whatever, when do I get to punch someone? Looking back I think the main place the seeds of this interpation of their relationship were sewn was in the episode of the 90's cartoon in which Jubilee tells a group of kids visiting the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters a fantasy style tale, in which she is a Robin Hood type with an orc like version of Wolverine as her sidekick. Since, then it just makes their team-ups more enjoyable to me thinking that she is the boss and he is the muscle. Maybe, it's because she's always been a bit more mouthy and brazen then Wolverine's other teen aged sidekicks. Which writing this makes me wonder why no one seems to play up the creepiness of Wolverine taking on teen aged girl sidekicks as much as they do the whole thing with Batman taking up teen aged boys as sidekicks. To me at least Wolvie's relationships seem a bit more unseemly than Batman's. But, then that's just me. But, yeah I view Batman's mentoring a lot more innocently than I do Wolverine's. But, back on topic I feel that Wolverine and Jubilee's relationship works best when she is shown as the one guiding their missions and making the decisions about how to proceed.

Jay's All New, All Different X-Men Team.
I haven't done this in a while. So, I thought it would be fun to take a Little time and come up with the teams I would use if I were writing the X-Men Books. First off I would use the idea from the 90s of a gold and blue team. I would also have them based out of the mansion again and have a support team of Forge, Moira, Cypher and, Cyclops leader of the entire group.
The Gold Team. For this team I thought I'd go with a more experienced group.
Havok - Team Leader. Like his brother. Havok is a natural leader and has led many of the members on this team before.
Polaris - Besides being Alex's on again/off again love interest. She's a flier with long range powers.
Rogue - Heavy hitter and a flier.
Cannonball - Though, a good leader in his own right. He is the only one of the New Mutants to make this team and like Rogue, he is a flier and heavy hitter.
Nightcrawler - He can be stealthy, is good with malee weapons and can get help out of a fit in a pinch, with his teleporting powers.
Wolverine - He had to be on at least one of these teams so, might as well be on the one with someone whom knows how to deal with him.
Gambit - Besides also having Rogue on this team. With all the time he's spent reigning in Logan. I figured Havok could control Gambit a lot better than the leader of the Blue Team and it's always good to have someone that can blow stuff up on at least one of the teams.
Psylocke - Again, she has experience working with Alex and, her powers are complimented by being on this team.
Colossus - The team's heavy hitter.
Kitty Pryde - With Piotr and Logan on this team you could've guessed she was going to be on this team. Plus, much like Nightcrawler she's good to have around in case the fight starts to go sour.
BLUE TEAM. Though, not as experienced as the Gold Team. They're not a team to be taken likely.
Multiple Man - Team Leader. Since, starting up X-Factor investigations. Madrox has been the type of leader a guy with his powers should be.
Siryn - With her and Jamie's personal history. She could be good at keeping him in line as well as her long range and flight powers.
M - Jamie knows how to deal with her and she is a powerhouse, no matter what time she's on.
Angel - I put him and a couple of the original X-Men on this team to work as mentors to the younger members. Plus, he's a flier and it's always good to have a few of those on your team.
Wolfsbane - The malee fighter of the team.
Husk - She was on a team with M and in a relationship with Angel. So, there will definitely make things interesting. Plus, the her powers she can be whatever supporting member the team needs.
Jubilee - With Husk and M on the team it's only natural to have Jubes on the team. Plus, I think it would be entertaining how she and MAdrox would butt heads.
Iceman - The main reason I put him on the team was because of this team's lack of long range attackers and him being a bit more immature than the folks on the other team. I thought he'd make a good fit on this team.
Sunspot - The team's powerhouse and a former teamate of Rahne's I felt this was the team for him.
Beast - A heavy hitter and able to find solutions for problems no one's thought exist. I feel he would make a good mentor to all the members including Madrox and I kind of think that if he had a choice he would pick to be on this team, for the entertainment of watching these personalities trying to work together.
Well, there you go. My Gold and Blue X-Men teams.

She's the Boss...Bub
Reading a blog on here a couple days ago someone referred to Jubilee as Wolverine's sidekick. Which kinda struck me as odd since as a kid I always thought he was her sidekick and even lately rereading the Jim Lee Visionaries trade. It seems like that, or at least that's how I interpret it. Nowadays I can see it more of thinking of her as his sidekick, but (partly because it's funnier)I still like to think of him as her sidekick. Just something about this world wary soldier being the tag a long to a teenage mallrat just tickles me deep down and if I ever got the chance to write a Wolverine story that is exactly how I would write it with her calling the shots and him just there as the muscle following her around and her flights of fancy and beating up any one dumb enough to talk smack to her. Of course, the funniest thing would be to have him (in at least one panel) say to her "sure, boss." Well that's all I got for today. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hope this doesn't get my geek card taken away
I haven't really gone into this before so, I thought for a little change of pace I'd make a list (yay Lists!!!) of some of the geeky stuff I'm not into or don't like. Since, most of the time I use this blog to talk about the things I do like and also 'cause, I'm bored and can't really think of anything else to write about. As with most lists I do on here these are in no particular order.
Lord of The Rings - Never read the books (or plan to)and I found the movies more boring than watching paint dry after a baseball game.
Tabletop Gaming - Even though I have friends who are into Warhammer and D&D I've never seen the fun in it and occasionally feel the need to make fun of the people who are into it as being way geekier than me, even though we're probably one par with one another.
Doctor Who - My uncle used to watch this show when I was a wee lad and even then I thought it was cheesy. I tried to give the new show a chance and even though its lost some of the cheese I just don't feel it. Nothing against anyone who does it's just not my bag.
Fantasy - For whatever reason which goes into why I didn't like LOTR. I've never been a fan of any of the wizards and elf stuff. As soon as I here that wizards or swords and sorcery are involved my brain just completely checks out. Not sure why, guess that's just how I'm wired.
WoW - Maybe tying into that whole thing about more loathing of fantasy settings. I just don't understand how so many people get hooked on the World of Warcrack. Just everything I've heard of it makes it sound lame and then when I thought it couldn't get any lamer Mr.T and Ozzy started pimping it. This does weird out some of my friends that I hate this game so much when I love other RPGs (especially Final Fantasy VII). But for whatever reasons, I really really hate this game.
I could thing of some other stuff but, not wanting to get lynched or have my geek-cred revoked I think I'll leave it at that. Hope y'all have a Happy Easter and I'm sure I'll be back to talking about Aquaman's suckiness or the awesomeness of Jubilee or something equally unimportant here soon :P

With Our Powers Combined...
So, this week I've been re-playing the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance and though I enjoy the game. There are quite a few characters I wish this or the sequel would have made playable and that is what I would like to talk about to day. Which means another list (WOO-HOO!!). For those of you who haven't been here before. I'm a cat that really enjoys make lists. If I can find any excuse to make up a list you better believe I will use it. With that said here is a list of the character I think they should use as playable characters if (or when) the do a third Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Firestar - Mainly, so I can form a Spiderman and his Amazing Friends team. Since both Spiderman and Iceman have been playable since the first one I think it's only fair to include Firestar in the next one.
Madrox - Granted both him and Firestar are bosses in the second Marvel Alliance game its just not the same and actually, I think it would be great if they included a bunch of X-Factor characters. Including (besides Jamie, Natch); M, Wolfsbane, Strong Guy,Siryn, Beast and, Havok. Plus, it would be fun to have an all Madri team. lol
Jubilee - Because, I love her and think she should be in all things Marvel.
The New Mutants - Or at least Cannonball, Magick, Sunspot and, Warlock (since, I already include Rahne in the X-Factor list).
Kitty Pryde - I'm actually kinda shocked she wasn't in any of the games yet.
Cloak and Dagger - They've had bit part and stuff but making them playable would be so awesome.
Hank Pym - really any of his personae would work.
Well, that's the list. Looking back its a bit mutant heavy but what can I say. I'm a mutie lover. After all if it wasn't for the X-books I would've proably stopped reading Marvel all together years ago and this is my site after all. Agree/Disagree drop my a line about your picks. Have a good wekkend and I'll see ya when I see ya.

A Geeky Confessional
Taking a break from my New Mutant love I figured I'd confess you to you my faithful reads about some of my darkest secrets (okay, they're not really that dark or that much of a secret, lol). But, I feel the need to make a confessional of some of my nerdy likes. Since, I don't really go into this stuff all that much I figured I'd let my guard down and share this stuff with all ya.
I still love Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. I don't know what it is about this show. But, something about it just hits all my geek buttons. Maybe its something about the joys and wonder of childhood and my memories of sitting in front of the TV as a young lad and watching the adventures of Pete, Bobby and Angelica or maybe its just that this was just an awesome show that has stood the test of time alot better than the shows it competed against back in the day. Who knows.
I enjoy collecting lots of GL paraphernalia. From Green Lantern rings and shirts and my Green Lantern jacket. It probably doesn't hurt that my favorite color is green and sadly, I am still waiting for them to make a GL bowling shirt.
My New Mutant love. Since I have made a few posts on this one. I won't go into much detail other than I really dig this book.
Jubilee! If you have read this blog with any regularity it will become apparent that I am a bit fixated on Ms. Jubilation Lee. It all started as a lad when I purchased the X-Men's Atlantis Attacks Annual which featured a short Jubilee story in one of her first appearances and ever since then. I have been smitten.
Since, i don't want to give away all of my geeky secrets I think I'll leave it at this before I depress myself and must get drunk until this shame no longer saddens me.
Good night and good luck :P

Shhhh... It's a Secret
Reading Kalinara's latest fun meme, got me to thinking about my favorite characters and to share with you fine folks about some of the secrets and/ or guilty pleasures I believe they have and enjoy. So, here ya go :)
Jubilee - Is way smarter than Kitty Pryde, but she hides it because she would rather play video games than reprogram the Danger Room.
Big Barda - Her favorite thing to do when no one is around is to play with Barbies.
Booster Gold - He has thought about trying out for American Idol, but doesn't think he has a good enough voice or that the audience has the proper respect for Blondie. His audition song would be Rapture.
Guy Gardener - Secretly wishes he could draw as well as Kyle.
Superman - would actually perfer being a farmer or a reporter rather than a superhero.
Bruce Wayne - His favorite band (though he would never admit it) is The Cardigans.
Alex Summer - Way better at crossword puzzles than his brother Scott.
Well, there you go there's my list of secrets that I think these characters are witholding from the general audience.Hope you enjoy it :)

Away My X-Men
Lately, I've been thinking about the X-Men and the different things I like about them. This train of thought then brought me to how much "House of M" really bugged me. Besides de-powering one of my favorite X-Men (the mighty and awesome Jubilee). It also really annoyed me how much they shrunk the mutant population. One of the things I dug about the X-Men pre-House of M was the variety in mutants and powers and how the different groups within the Xavier Institute. Of all the things I miss about the X-Men and their affiliated "X-Teams" the pre-House of M variety and the combinations that led to make my really miss those days. sadly, stories like House of M have become a trademark of Joe Quesada's editorial run at Marvel. After all who would of thought after this terrible story we would have the whole Civil War fiasco followed by Peter Parker selling his soul to the Devil and getting a divorce out of the deal. One the plus side it looks like they're finally undoing a couple of these stories and even though DC has been better at the major event promotions as of late. One of the things that really has been bugging me about both companies has been the whole Nothing Will Ever Be The Same!!! events. Of course, the main reason I'm not a fan of these events is because, the only thing that makes one of these events stick is wholey dependent on how good the story is. After all once another writer takes over a book (s)he is able to throw out the stuff they don't like while keeping the continuity they either like or were fans of back in the day and in teh end I guess, even us fans have the power to do that as well and in my X-Men Universe Jubes is still a mutant and the kids that starred in the X-Men Academy books are all still at the school and they all still live in New York state.

You make me feel like spring had sprung
I couldn't really think of anything to post today. So, I thought I'd do another one of my patented lists. Just to be different I thought for this list I'd be different and instead of doing the usual type of lists. I'd make this one about the gals in comics that I have (or had) a crush on through out the years. So, without to much more of an introduction here are the top 5 (fictional) comic girls I crush on :)
Jubilee - If you've been here before, you should already know about my mad Jubilee love. If your new to Monkey Knife Fight. One of the things you should know is I love Jubilation Lee. I have since, the first time a saw her in a comic (The X-Men's Atlantis Attacks Annual). I could go on and on about how much I adore this character. How many gals do you know could appoint themselves Wolverine's sidekick and get him to go along with the program. Really, (to me atleast)it felt more like he was her sidekick most of the time.
Wolfsbane - She's so vulernable and adorable, I just want to wrap my arms around her. She was my favorite New Mutant back in the day, but what really got my crushing hard on her was the way PAD wrote her in the current X-Factor books.
Lady Blackhawk - Ah, Zinda, Zinda, Zinda. What's not to love about Ms. Zinda Blake? She's tough, she likes to drink, she's sweet and sassy and as a bonus she wears a skirt. I am a big fan of girls that wear skirts and dresses, real girls or fictional. If they wear a lot of skirts I'm gonna fall in love with them :)
Kitty Pryde - I think it's alomost a prerequist that if your into comics at one point or another you're gonna have a crush on Kitty.
Catwoman - How could any red-blood guy not crush on Seline Kyle? Honestly, she is like every generation of Batman fan's crush. Whether it's the purple dress, or Julie Newmar, or Lee Mariweather,Michelle Pfeiffer, the Animated series or Darwyn Cook's artwork. Everyone has a Catwoman they adore :)
So, there you have it. The five comic book gals that really get my motor running. This is either a really neat or really, really sad. I'll let you make the call :)

This looks like a job for a Superheroine
Yesterday, I was thinking about the last couple of issues of JSA, when it dawned on me that something has been missing... Then I realised that thing it had been missing was it's under use of Stargirl. Now granted she has been shown prominently, however she really hasn't been the guiding force she usually is, I don't really blame any of the writers. After all in a team book you have to rotate how you choose ot focus on. Thinking about this got me on to thinking about the Super heroines I dig and what that might mean about my Psyche. Which got me thinking about what I should post and I figured it was time for one of my ever popular lists. So, here as it stands today, are the Super heroines I think are the coolest (and maybe a little insight into what this says about my taste in girls, lol).
And as always these are not listed in any sort of order (other than popping into my head in that order, lol).
Since, I already mentioned her. I'm going to start this list with Stargirl AKA Courtney Whitmore. I thin she is awesome for many of the same reasons I like Jubilee. They both have bubbly, outgoing personalities. Which I could be digging on just on the basis that as a LEO bubbly, outgoing girls are pretty attractive to me. Beyond that I really dig that she has gone from a junior member to a leadership role in the JSA in just a few short years. That is pretty awesome.
I guess that brings us to Jubilee. Ah, Ms. Jubilation Lee. How can you not love this firecracker (no, pun intended). The saddest thing about me love of Jubilee is how when I first became a fan of her she was a few years older than me and now she's roughly 10 years younger than me. From the first time I read about her (the X-Men's Atlantis Attacks Annual)to her staring role in the cartoon and even her cameos in the X-Men movies. Right on,I'm quite pissed about Joey Q's treatment of her from House of M up until and including her return in the New Warriors.
Speaking of Warriors. I could not do a post like this without mentioning the greatest warrior to ever escape Apokolips. That's right I'm talking about Barda Free...Big Barda herself. How can you not love Barda, she's a tough girl with a big loud personality. She is no shrinking violet that's for sure. She can be bombastic or sweet. She's loyal and kind.
Next I think I'll have to mention Zinda before it slips my mind. I'm not going to go to deep into the awesomeness that is Lady Blackhawk. Since, I did a whole post on that not too long ago. I'll just say this... She likes guns, booze and, fighting what's not to love.
I gues that this point I should probably mention my second favorite X-girl. Rogue, what's not to love about a southern belle that can punch through a brick wall. My favorite protrayal Rogue was when she had stolen Ms. Marvel's powers. She's tough as nails yet sensitive and longing to be touched without the consequences of killing another person. Plus she has that southern drawl (and accents are HAWT!).
Moving we come to Soranik Natu Doctor and Green Lantern pulled between her duties and her homeworld. She since her first appearence in the Green Lantern Corps. I have loved the way the writers have protrayed her. She is just plain awesome.
Last but not least is Molly Hayes from the Runaways. She's just so darn cute. Even when she is punching through walls. In a lot of ways she reminds me of my siblings and the daughters of my friends and family.
Well, I could go on and on about the Superheroines I love but I feel this is a good stopping point for now and I'm sure I'll be coming back to this subject in the future. But for now here's the list I'm going with

Love is a many splendored thing
Well, it's that time of the week again. Time when I take a little break from typing things up and go out and try to spend some time in the real world. So, I thought I'd leave this week on a positive note and give you folks a list of my favorite couples in comic books. Not all them are current and some of them may even be out of print at the moment but, it's my list so i get to make the rules and my rule is that these couple can be from any age and any company :P
...And on that lovely note, let's begin. Shall we?
Guy Gardner and Tora Olafsdotter - At the moment this is my favorite couple between them starting over in the current issues of GLC and my re-reading the old JLI books, this couple is tops in my books. Plus I really dig the dynamics of their relationship and how Tora is one of the few people in the DCU that can tell Guy he's being an idiot and he'll actually listen and try to correct it.
Peter Parker and Felicia Harding - I'm not sure why but, of all the girls Pete's been with the Blackcat is my favorite and every time they team up I hope finally this time they'll hookup for the long haul. At the same time though, it totally makes sense to me that she prefers Spidey to Petey (can't blame her for that). Personally, I always felt that her main gripe was that she didn't believe he's really being himself when he's just being Pete and that he was always denying just how funny swinging through New york's skyline really was. Well, that and he tends to whine ALOT as Peter Parker, lol.
The Maxx and Julie Winters - Like alot of folks my age I got turned on to this series by the show on MTV and then went and got the books and every once in awhile I re-read them and in my mind (despite all their flaws like mental illness for one example) this is one of the cutest, sweetest couples in comics.
Scott Summers and Jean Grey - I think they should always end up together.
Jamie Madrox and Theresa Rourke Cassidy - Even though he (or one of his dupes) always finds a way to screw things up. I feel that in the end she will always forgive him and that one day they will live happily ever after together.
Tim Drake and Jubilation Lee - One of if not THE perfect couples in comics, even if they were only a couple during a pretty lame crossover it still counts and I thought it was awesome.
Well, there you have it the list of me favorite comic book couples. I hope you have enjoyed this post and have a great weekend. See you next week =D

Remembering when you couldn't wait to wake up on Saturday
Whenever I remember to watch it I tune in for Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. I don't really know why but even today I still dig that show. As cheezy as it is I think it is one of the better superhero cartoons from back in my preschool days. For those of you who don't know about this show it was made back in the early eighties and Starred Spiderman, Iceman (of X-Men fame) and Firestar (a girl they created for the show) and of course, the star of the show Ms. Lion.

Personally, I think this show stands up to the test of time way better than Superfriends and a lot better than Pryde of the X-Men. What were they thinking making Wolverine Australian. Isn't it bad enough that he's Canadian,I kid, I kid. I my a big fan of Canada. They created hockey and make good beer (like Black Label) How could you hate that? Anywho back to Spidey. This show rocks here take a loook at this clip.
Now that's entertainment. In fact in my dedication to this show, I not only bought the issue of Spiderman Family that feature this fantastic trio. I bout three of them and used two of them to redecorate my table. I think this show just goes to that part of my brain that still dig fun comics and the idea that Jubilee is cool because of not inspite of her fireworks. Well, that's all I've got. See you on monday and have a fun weekend. I know I will if nothing else I'll be watching cartoons and remembering just how cool this show is :)

Jay's X-Men Team
On Friday I listed what I think would be the best Justice League team ever. So, to start off the week I thought it would be a hoot to list off the best X-Men team. Plus I didn't want it to seem like I only read DC since I have been doing a lot of posts on the Distinguished Competition. So, without further adieu. Here's my X-Men team:
Multiple Man (Jamie Madrox) ~ Besides the fact that he can be his own task force. The last couple of years of X-Factor has shown him grow as a leader and I think he would rock leading the X-Men.
Nightcrawler ~ You really can't have a proper X-Men team without him plus with his teleportation powers he can always get you out of a plot quickly.
Wolverine~ Again it's not really an X-Men team without him.
Colossus ~ Since, you need a heavy hitter and there is no heavier hitter than the mighty Colossus he's on the team.
Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair) ~ I always thought she was the New Mutant most deserving of a spot on the team. So, I'm drafting her.
Jubilee ~ Pure nepotism. I love Jubes and it's my team so there :P
Rogue ~ Just because it would be so cool I would give her back Ms. Marvel's powers so she can fly and punch tanks.
Gambit ~ Since, Rogue's on the team he kind of has to be there. Plus a guy that makes things explode is always cool.
Iceman ~ Just for the old school factor and the fact that I'm a big fan of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.
Beast ~ 'Cuz brainy scientist guy is a must on any team.
Siryn ~ Since I need another flyer and her dad hasn't been brought back to life, yet. She's on the team. Also, I'm a big fan of all the drama that comes from her and Jamie's past and present, lol.
Well, there you go that's my X-tremely Awesome X-team (sorry, I just couldn't help using a pun that made the books what they are today, lol).

When comics go bad
Just to switch things up I thought I'd do a post about underated characters from my favorite comic books. Most of these characters have been killed off, depowered or just ran through the ringer by writes who thought they were lame or dumb or useless. Which personally I don't understand if yoiu've got the right person writing anything can become good. I never really understood why a superhero has to have really great powers to be cool. So, anyways here's my list have fun and if you end up getting a book with one of these folks in it then I've done a good job : )
Jubilee ~ What can I say even though I'm probably one of her only fans I really really dig Jubilee. She's a mallrat from beverly hills with the mutant power to shoot fireworks and explosive charges from her fingertips. For most of the ninties she was Wolverine's sidekick and was in the X-Men and Generation X comics. She's been in all three X-Men movies (no speaking parts unfortunately) and has been in both cartoons. But, a couple of years ago the powers that be at marvel decided she was not cool and her powers suck (which in all honesty they kinda do) and during the huge mess that was the house of M crossover series she was depowered.
Doug Ramsey (cypher) ~ This guy was hated on from the first time he appeared in the comic The New Mutants mainly because nobody understood how awesome his mutant power was. Doug has the ability to instantly learn any language. I'm not talking about just human or alien langauges either. Computer langauge body language, etc. This has to be one of the best super powers ever. Alas, the wirters could never figure out a good way to show off his power and only a couple years after his first appearance he was killed off.
Cassandra Cain (Batgirl) ~ Although I haven't read alot of her comics I dug Cassie as Batgirl. She was raised by her dad to be the ultimate assassin and through lots of emotional and physical abuse he nearly acomplished this goal. However after her first kill (at the age of eight) she ran away and years later Batman and Barbera Gordon (the original Batgirl) converted her to their cause and she became the new Batgirl. During the years they did a really good job of writing her. From her learning to read to her becoming friends with Robin's girlfriend and the loss she felt when Robin's girlfriend was killed during the Batman crossover "War Games". Then this year to mess with Robin's head the folks at DC turned her into an assassin who was trying to kill him. I bet she wouldn't have turned to evil had someone given her a hug*sniff*
Well, I could go on and on, on this subject. But, it's getting late. Plus, I didn't really want to go into how lame and sadistic it is how Marvel continues to bring Jean Grey back to life just to kill her again as soon as they get the itch. It's just so messed up. Maybe one of these days the folks at Marvel and DC will realize that even the lamest characters (ahem, I'm looking at you Ambush Bug) is somebodies favorite and show the characters and fans more respect than they do now ( Joey Q, I'm looking at you). Yes, I know these a fictional characters and do not actually exist. But, I couldn't think of anything else to write about and this has been bouncing around in my head for awhile. So, I figured I'd jot it down. Maybe one day when I have the time I'll go into more detail on other characters I like who have gotten the shaft in comics and how cool they could have been if they had been written by someone with some skillz.

The geekiness continues
Since I haven’t done a list in awhile, I thought it would be fun to share with you my favorite super heroines. Plus, I thought maybe this would give me a little insight into the type of girls I like
(and in case you’re new to this place these are in no particular order)
So,without any further ado...
Zatanna - What’s not to love, she’s a sorceress with a neat gimmick (sdrawkcab meth gniyas yb slleps gnitsac) and what red-blooded guy doesn’t love a girl in fishnets and tails.
Wolfsbane - Ah, Ms. Rahne Sinclear I’ve dug her since back in her New Mutant days. There’s just something about a shy girl with a christian upbringing and the ability to turn into a wolf that just had me from the word go.
Jubilee - Oh, how I luv Jubes (when I was a wee lad I had a huge crush on her) I know her powers are kinda lame and she can be obnoxious. But, it doesn’t matter.
Big Barda - What can I say Barda is just awesome. She’s just as strong as Superman and is married to the super escape artist Mr.Miracle.
Kitty Pryde - I don’t think there is any guy whose into comics whom has not had a crush on her at some point. She’s super smart, she’s a ninja and she has a pet dragon (what’s not to love).
Rogue - especially when she could fly and had super strength and it makes you sad thinking about how if she kisses or holds hands with a fellow she could kill him. The poor girl
Stargirl - She’s just fun :)
Raven - Aw, my love of goth girls knows no bounds.
Black Cat - MEOW!
Siryn - PAD is such an awesome writer she has totally crept in (plus how can you not like a girl who dated Deadpool and actually dug him).
Well, that’s all of them I can think of right now.Plus, I don’t wanna go on listing and listing and listing until the eyes of the few people who read this glaze over. The only similarities between these girls seems to be their XX chromosomes. Unless someone else out there has a bit more insight. I guess, what I’ve learned is I like girls everyone of them I’ve liked (in the real world and not so real worlds of DC and Marvel) has a something unique and special about them that I just can’t resist (Now,if only they felt the same way about me but, I guess that should probably be left for another post). I dunno, I’m all outta ideas so... Until next time... Keep watching the skis...um, I mean skies
(and in case you’re new to this place these are in no particular order)
