The Best Marriage in comics

In honor of Valentine's Day, I figured today I'd write about the coolest, best marriage in comics. No, I don't mean Peter and MJ before their satanic divorce. I'm talking about Scott and Barda Free.

scott and barda 2

Right off there's the fact that these two met and feel in love ON APOKOLIPS. If there was ever a place least conducive to folks falling in love this would be the place. Scott first caught Barda's through his fight to escape from the control of Darksied and Granny Goodness and showing her that you didn't have to except things how they were, that you can fight and maybe even triumph over a repressive world.
After they escapes from Apoklips, Barda then searched and found Scott. Becoming one of the stars of his act. Then after they married they tried to settle into a nice suburban life style but adventure kept calling out to Mr.Miracle and Big Barda.
One of the things I've always dug about this couple is that Barda could go blow for blow, punch for punch with Superman and neither she or Scott care about this. He doesn't care that she's the stronger one of the pair (at least physically) and she doesn't care that he doesn't have the strength to pick up a tank, like she does. In all the books I've read about these to this is a complete non-issue. Plus, you gotta dig a tough girl that like her bunny slippers. These two care more about each other than life itself and it shows. Sure, Scott teases her about her awful cooking and she'd prefer Scott to just settle down into a job as an insurance agent or some other job that doesn't lend itself quite as much to globe trotting adventures. But, they except each other completely. Even their bickering seems to be done out of love for each other. So, hopefully this Valentine's Day those of you out there who have somebody have found someone like these two to sure in your triumphs and missteps and hopefully one of these days those of us out there still looking for that person will find our one Barda or Scott as the case may be.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone and I hope you enjoy your weekend =D

Next on the Tonight Show a man who can shoot webs and crawl up walls

Well, I was gonna try to come up with something that didn't include any references to Mr. Miracle today. I'm a bit scared I may become that guy that only blogs about Mr. Miracle and although he is one of my favorite characters I don't want to become pigeonhold by him either. But, I just couldn't resist talking about how of all the comic characters out there the two (at least in my mind) that have the best logic when it comes to their garish costumes are Scott Free and Peter Parker. In Scott's case he got his costume and superhero identity from the original Mr. Miracle who was an escape artist and as such it made sense he would wear such an outragous looking outfit and the same goes for Spidey. In case you don't remember Speider-Man's reason for creating his costume was so he would look cool on TV. Maybe it just me but I buy the idea alot more of people originally coming up with their fanastically splendid costumes. Just so they could look good while performing for an audience than some one like Batman (also a big fav of mine) whom decided that he could strike fear into the hearts of criminals if he outfitted all his toys and accessories with a bat motif and putting bat ears on his cowl. Of course, Batman and Mr. Miracle both abide from the first rule of superhero costumes "capes kick ass". I guess I just like the idea that both Mr. Miracle and Spider-Man started out as performers before they became heroes. To me that's a bit more interesting than the run of the mill, "well, today I got splashed with toxic waste and it gave me superpowers. So, I'm going to become a crime fighter or I have superpowers because I come from a different planet, do you have any bank robbers I can beat up? Well, that's my 2 cents on superheroes and their costumes. Feel free to disagree.

Jay Casts the Justice League International Movie

Since this is my favorite version of the Justice League. I thought it would be fun to share with my readers (all two of you) who I would pick to play these characters.
Batman ~ Christian Bale. This is a no brainer.
Blue Beetle ~ Ryan Reynolds, he would be perfect as the wisecracking Ted Kord.
Martian Manhunter ~ Kieth David, he has the perfect voice to pull off what would essentually be a CGI character.
Booster Gold ~ Neil Patrick Harris, he's pretty much playing this character already on How I Met Your Mother (minus the super powers, of course).
Fire ~ Paz Vega, This one is kinda hard 'cuz I don't know how she would look with Fire's green hair. Other than that though, I think this would be a good fit.
Ice ~ Kristen Bell, She has both the innocent look and inner strength that are the hardest pieces of Ice to play.
Mr. Miracle ~ Steve Carell, after his turn as Maxwell Smart. I think he would be perfect as the world's greatest excape artist.
Big Barda ~ Lucy Lawless. How could you go with anyone but Xena, to play Barda.
Captian Atom ~ George Eads, He already did a great job of playing him on the JLU cartoon and since the character would most like be CGI it wouldn't be that much of a change.
Rocket Red ~ Daniel London, He seemed pretty good at being clueless and faking a russian accent in Big Trouble and those are the main ingredients to play this character. so...
Guy Gardner ~ Scott Caan, okay I had to change this one because like I said he's the hardest one to cast. But, thinking it over I think he'd make a much better Guy than Jason Bateman.
Maxwell Lord ~ Thomas Gibson, He could play this part in his sleep.well, there you go.
My choices for the people to be in the Justice League International movie.
